Bigger than Barbie is about the non-profit organisation Monkeybiz set in Cape Town, South Africa. Monkeybiz was founded in 2000 as an initiative to create income for the disadvantaged women from the poor townships. Today, the project provides work for around 500 women who make beaded animals and dolls. Monkeybiz also runs an HIV clinic for the women in the project who are infected by the virus.
